“ColdQuanta is headed by an old pal of ours Bo Ewald and has just come out of stealth mode into the glaring spotlight of RadioFreeHPC. When you freeze a gas of Bosons at low density to near zero you start to get macroscopic access to microscopic quantum mechanical effects, which is a pretty big deal. With the quantum mechanics start, you can control it, change it, and get computations out of it. The secret sauce for ColdQuanta is served cold, all the way down into the micro-kelvins and kept very locally, which makes it easier to get your condensate.”
Podcast: David Barkai book to chronicle the History of HPC
In this podcast, the Radio Free HPC team catches up with special guest today, David Barkai, a 50-year veteran of HPC. David has worked in a wide variety of positions at NASA, Intel, Cray, SGI and others. His current project is writing a book to chronicle the last 50 years in HPC told from the perspective of those who were there. “The main emphasis in the book is examining the good that HPC has done in the world, which is quite the story.”
Accelerating vaccine research for COVID-19 with HPC and AI
In this special guest feature, Peter Ungaro from HPE writes that HPC is playing a leading role in our fight against COVID-19 to support the urgent need to find a vaccine that will save lives and reduce suffering worldwide. “At HPE, we are committed to advancing the way we live and work. As a world leader in HPC and AI, we recognize the impact we can make by applying modeling, simulation, machine learning and analytics capabilities to data to accelerate insights and discoveries that were never before possible.”
Transforming Private 5G Networks
The high bandwidth and low latency of 5G is truly transformational for the enterprise. Private 5G networks will enable business to offer new services through connected devices on the Edge and entirely new revenue streams. “Advantech Networks & Communications Group is driving innovation in next-generation network solutions with their High Performance Servers. The systems are cost effective, highly available and optimized to meet next generation networking and media processing needs.”
Video: Major Market Shifts in IT
Shahin Khan from OrionX gave this talk at the Stanford HPC Conference. “We will discuss the digital infrastructure of the future enterprise and the state of these trends. OrionX works with clients on the impact of Digital Transformation on them, their customers, and their messages. Generally, they want to track, in one place, trends like IoT, 5G, AI, Blockchain, and Quantum Computing. And they want to know what these trends mean, how they affect each other, and when they demand action, and how to formulate and execute an effective plan. If that describes you, we can help.”
Hyperion Research Forecasts Widespread Covid-19 Disruption to HPC Market
Today Hyperion Research released its updated analysis of the potential impact areas of the covid-19 pandemic on the HPC market based on recent discussions with HPC system vendors and buyers. There is a large variation in the impacts of the virus for different segments of the HPC market. Hyperion Research is developing a detailed analysis of these impacts in order to create updated forecasts for HPC servers, AI, ML, DL, and public cloud spending for running HPC workloads.
Podcast: Honeywell Traps, Zaps Ions for Science
In this podcast, the Radio Free HPC team looks at Honeywell’s Trapped Ion Quantum computing initiative. Quantum computing initiative. “Shahin gives us a good overview of digital vs. analog and classical vs. quantum science. The Honeywell system is in the ‘quantum-gate’ quadrant of Shahin’s model, suspending ions in space through magnetics and then hitting them with lasers to produce entanglement. The Honeywell system is interesting because it is scoring well on the emerging Quantum Volume metric – showing very high fidelity for its qubit count. This system is the culmination of over 10 years of R&D and should be on the market later on this year.”
