Sept. 26, 2023 — VAST Data and CoreWeave today announced a partnership to build an NVIDIA GPU-powered computing cloud for generative AI, high performance computing and visual effects workloads.
Startup CoreWeave is a GPU cloud services provider that has attracted more than $400 million in investment funding (including $100 million from NVIDIA and $200 million from Magnetar Capital). The company said it selected VAST Data, an AI data platform company, to power its data centers because it offers the scale, performance and multi-tenant enterprise AI cloud capabilities required to power large-scale AI and large language model training and inference applications.
The companies said their partnership leverages NVIDIA technology to engineer a new AI data platform architecture for end-to-end data pipelines. The VAST Data Platform offers an enterprise network attached data store certified for use with NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD and eliminates tiers and infrastructure silos “to make large scale AI simpler, faster and easier to manage at virtually limitless levels of scale and performance.”

“CoreWeave is a specialized cloud, delivering access to hundreds of 1000s of GPUs on top of one of the industry’s fastest and most flexible cloud infrastructures,” VAST said. The partnership “deliver(s) the underlying AI infrastructure that delivers high performance, multi-tenancy and multiple protocols. Leveraging the VAST Data Platform, CoreWeave is able to seamlessly scale both the performance and capacity to support the unprecedented growth that this (generative AI) space is experiencing.
The VAST Data Platform is a software-defined AI data platform based on the DASE (disaggregated shared everything) architecture and runs on top of enterprise-grade hardware. VAST said this approach enables aggressive service level agreements (SLAs) “even while experiencing multiple hardware failures and while doing software or hardware upgrades.”
