Helland was also a presenter this week at the ASCR Advisory Committee Meeting, where she disclosed that the Aurora 21 Supercomputer coming to Argonne in 2021 will indeed be an exascale machine. While we do not have the video of that talk, you can download the full presentation and take a look.
As you’ll recall, Aurora was originally contracted to be a 180 Petaflop machine set for delivery to Argonne in 2018. As we suspicioned, Intel could not deliver that machine on time and it looks to be on the hook to delivery of the very first exascale machine in the U.S. with Cray as its integrator.
Both Cray and Intel have declined to comment on the status of Aurora, but we will keep you posted as this story develops.
