GE’s Flow Simulator Software Now Available Exclusively from Altair
Today Altair announced that the company has added GE’s Flow Simulator software to the Altair Partner Alliance (APA) and offer direct licenses to Altair customers. Flow Simulator is an integrated flow, heat transfer, and combustion design software that enables mixed fidelity simulations to optimize machine and systems design. “GE’s Flow Simulator will benefit our customers by providing thermal fluid system mixed fidelity simulation capabilities relevant to multiple industries. It expands our strong multiphysics system modeling portfolio, and we are very positive about working with GE to carry their great development work forward to a broader set of customers and applications,” said Brett Chouinard, Altair’s President and COO.
Case Study: Supercomputing Natural Gas Turbine Generators for Huge Boosts in Efficiency
Hyperion Research has published a new case study on how General Electric engineers were able to nearly double the efficiency of gas turbines with the help of supercomputing simulation. “With these advanced modeling and simulation capabilities, GE was able to replicate previously observed combustion instabilities. Following that validation, GE Power engineers then used the tools to design improvements in the latest generation of heavy-duty gas turbine generators to be delivered to utilities in 2017. These turbine generators, when combined with a steam cycle, provided the ability to convert an amazing 64% of the energy value of the fuel into electricity, far superior to the traditional 33% to 44%.”

Today the Exascale Computing Project appointed David Kepczynski from GE Global Research as the new chair of the ECP Industry Council. “We are thrilled that Dave Kepczynski has agreed to take the leadership reins for the ECP’s Industry Council,” ECP Director Doug Kothe said. “He has been an active member of the Industry Council since day one, and his experience and vision pertaining to the potential impact of exascale on U.S. industries is invaluable to our mission.” Kothe added, “We wish to thank Michael McQuade for his pioneering leadership role with this external advisory group, and we wish him well with his future plans.”
