NVIDIA Powers Top 13 Most Energy Efficient Supercomputers https://insidehpc.com/2017/06/nvidia-powers-top-13-energy-efficient-supercomputers/ Mon, 19 Jun 2017 09:40:02 +0000 https://insidehpc.com/?p=65078

Today Nvidia announced that the NVIDIA Tesla AI supercomputing platform powers the top 13 measured systems on the new Green500 list of the world’s most energy-efficient high performance computing systems. All 13 use NVIDIA Tesla P100 data center GPU accelerators, including four systems based on the NVIDIA DGX-1 AI supercomputer. "NVIDIA also released performance data illustrating that NVIDIA Tesla GPUs have improved performance for HPC applications by 3X over the Kepler architecture released two years ago. This significantly boosts performance beyond what would have been predicted by Moore’s Law, even before it began slowing in recent years."

Jülich Installs New QPACE3 Supercomputer for Quantum Chromodynamics https://insidehpc.com/2016/12/61997/ Sat, 24 Dec 2016 17:28:20 +0000 http://insidehpc.com/?p=61997 A new supercomputer has been deployed at the Jülich Supercomputing Center (JSC) in Germany. Called QPACE3, the new 447 Teraflop machine is named for "QCD Parallel Computing on the Cell. "QPACE3 is being used by the University of Regensburg for a joint research project with the University of Wuppertal and the Jülich Supercomputing Center for numerical simulations of quantum chromodynamics (QCD), which is one of the fundamental theories of elementary particle physics. Such simulations serve, among other things, to understand the state of the universe shortly after the Big Bang, for which a very high computing power is required."
