Diego Klahr from Total gave this talk at the Rice Oil & Gas Conference. “Oil and Gas industry is continuously challenged to increase its hydrocarbon production in response to the growing demand for energy. Finding new oil and gas fields has become more challenging as resources are no longer easily accessible with an increase of geological complexity and environmental constraints. High-resolution and reliable subsurface imaging is getting more and more key but more and more internal customers are knocking at the door.”
A New World of Simulation for Oil & Gas
In this special guest feature from Scientific Computing World, Gemma Church writes that the Oil and Gas market aims to use more simulation to ensure sound decision making s the world makes better use of renewable energy. “Oil and gas companies are increasingly relying on digital technology to improve their operational efficiency, reduce manpower through automation and developing autonomous systems for drilling, offshore platforms and increasing use of remotely operated systems and equipment for inspection.”
ServerCool CDUs are Cooling 10-Percent of Top100 Supercomputers
Today Nortek Air Solutions’ ServerCool division that its coolant distribution unit (CDU) technology is cooling dozens of the world’s most powerful and energy efficient supercomputers, according to the 2019 TOP500 and Green500 lists announced recently at the ISC 2019 in Frankfurt. “The TOP500 proves that hardware manufacturers are pushing their equipment’s performance envelope at the chip level, however ServerCool will keep pace with that growth by continuing to develop higher cooling and flow capacities with smaller footprints,” said Stuart Smith, global sales manager, ServerCool div. of Nortek Air Solutions.
IBM Deploys World’s Most Powerful Commercial Supercomputer for Total
IBM has deployed the world’s most powerful commercial supercomputer at Total, a global energy company. Coming in at number 11 on the TOP500, the new IBM POWER9-based supercomputer will help Total more accurately locate new resources and better assess the potential associated revenue opportunities. “Pangea III’s additional computing power enhances Total’s operational excellence. It enables Total to reduce geological risks in exploration and development, accelerate project maturation and delivery, and increases the value of our assets through optimized field operations, with all this at lower cost.”
