May 16, 2022 — The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory will host a panel to discuss new paradigms in computing Wednesday, May 18, 10-11:30 a.m. Central Time. Argonne said the event is expected to draw approximately 500 scientists, researchers, engineers and industry professionals. Panelists will discuss new forms of computing for solving pressing and intriguing problems — approaches that rely not on increased computational power but on new computing frameworks. The program includes a keynote address, panel discussion and audience question-and-answer session.

The keynote speaker will be Sadasivan Shankar, Ph.D., a research technology manager at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, adjunct professor at Stanford University, and associate at Harvard University.
Additional panelists include:
- Salman Habib, Ph.D., director of Computational Science Division, Argonne Distinguished Fellow, Argonne National Laboratory, with joint appointments at Northwestern University and University of Chicago
- Yanjing Li, Ph.D., assistant professor of computer science, University of Chicago
- Fangfang Xia, Ph.D., computer scientist, Argonne National Laboratory
The panel will be moderated by Argonne Distinguished Fellow Rick Stevens, Ph.D., associate laboratory director of the Computing, Environment and Life Sciences directorate at Argonne National Laboratory and professor of computer science at the University of Chicago.
