D-Wave Offers Free Quantum Cloud Access for Global Response to COVID-19
Today D-Wave Systems announced the immediate availability of free access to its quantum systems via the Leap quantum cloud service for anyone working on responses to the COVID-19 crisis. “It is promising to accelerate the solution of complex problems in pharmacology and epidemiology, such as those that have arisen in the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis, by means of hybrid workflows from quantum-classical computer simulations.”
Finnish researchers demonstrate how noise impacts quantum computing
A team of researchers from three Finnish institutions (CSC, Aalto University, and Abo Akademi University) and their collaborators from Boston University in the USA have for the first time demonstrated how the noise impacts a calculation in a systematic way. By varying the time over which the quantum property of the qubits is changed (from microseconds to milliseconds) and studying different numbers of coupled qubits in a D-Wave device, they were able to confirm a general principle of defect creation (meaning errors in the calculation). “According to this principle, a longer computing time should give a better result, but the researchers found that the noise negatively affects the results more if the time is longer. They explained this behavior by a mathematical model, which will be a useful tool for diagnosing future quantum annealing devices and to find the best ways to operate them.”
D-Wave Leap 2 Quantum Cloud Service is Built for Business
Today D-Wave Systems announced the immediate availability of Leap 2, the first quantum cloud service designed for developers and organizations to easily build and deploy real-world hybrid quantum applications with practical impact. “With Leap, we opened the door to real-time quantum access. With Leap 2, we’re giving developers and businesses the key to business applications. By delivering a hybrid offering, we’re removing many of the barriers related to complexity and problem size,” said Alan Baratz, CEO of D-Wave.
D-Wave and NEC to Accelerate Commercial Quantum Computing
Today D-Wave Systems announced the company has signed agreements with NEC Corporation to drive development of hybrid services that combine the best features of quantum and classical computers, and make it easy to incorporate quantum capabilities into integrated workflows. D-Wave and NEC plan to market and sell D-Wave’s Leap quantum cloud service, which includes hybrid tools and services, as well as new hybrid capabilities to be jointly developed. NEC has committed to invest $10 million in D-Wave. The collaboration will take effect upon the closing of NEC’s investment, which is subject to certain conditions.
D-Wave Expands Leap API into Amazon Braket
Today D-Wave Systems announced the expansion of the Leap API into Amazon Braket, a new, fully managed Amazon Web Services (AWS) solution that allows scientists, researchers, and developers to begin experimenting with computers from quantum hardware providers in a single place. The service, announced today at AWS re:Invent 2019, gives AWS users live cloud access to D-Wave’s 2000Q quantum processor via the Leap quantum cloud service API. Customers and developers will be able to leverage D-Wave’s processing power in real time to run quantum applications directly from Amazon Braket. This access will extend to forthcoming D-Wave systems, such as the next-generation Advantage, coming in mid-2020.
Amazon Braket to offer Multivendor Quantum Computing Service
Today AWS announced Amazon Braket, a fully managed service that enables scientists, researchers, and developers to begin experimenting with computers from quantum hardware providers (including D-Wave Systems, IonQ, and Rigetti) in a single place. The quantum service is one of three key initiatives as a part of the company’s plans to help advance quantum computing technologies. “As a fully managed service, Braket makes it possible for customers to get started on quantum computing by providing a single development environment to build quantum algorithms, test them on simulated quantum computers, and try them on a range of different quantum hardware architectures.”
D-Wave Announces First European Leap Quantum Cloud Site at Jülich
Today D-Wave Systems announced that it will house its first European Leap quantum cloud-based system outside of North America at the Jülich Supercomputing Center in Germany. The system marks the cornerstone of the new Jülich UNified Infrastructure for Quantum computing (JUNIQ) lab designed to offer practically usable quantum computers to researchers in Germany and throughout Europe.
D-Wave Announces Largest-Ever Quantum Cloud-Access Contract
Today D-Wave Systems announced largest-ever global quantum cloud contract with Sigma-i, a company in Japan formed to optimize the world with quantum computing technologies. Sigma-i will offer quantum consulting services and access to the D-Wave 2000Q family of systems to companies, universities, and research laboratories throughout Japan. “This contract signals the ongoing growth of our cloud business and the increasing interest in quantum computing worldwide.”
D-Wave Releases of D-Wave Hybrid Workflow Platform to Open Source
Today D-Wave Systems announced the general availability of D-Wave Hybrid, a simple open-source hybrid workflow platform for building and running quantum-classical hybrid applications. “Most quantum computing projects we’ve worked on in the past have relied on a classical hybrid quantum-classical approach. The release of D-Wave Hybrid has allowed us to prototype these hybrid approaches much faster than before, and gives us the algorithmic control required to customize different parts to suit our needs.”
