Today GigaIO announced availability of FabreX for vScaler’s management interface. As the industry’s first in-memory network, FabreX will bolster vScaler’s cloud appliances for artificial intelligence (AI), deep learning, biotechnology and big data analytics. “GigaIO entered a strategic partnership with vScaler in November 2019 to bring their excellent user interface and ease of use into the FabreX environment,” says Alan Benjamin, CEO of GigaIO. “FabreX’s integration with vScaler delivers an elegant and straight forward way for customers to improve resource utilization and create highly-composable, unified infrastructures. I am thrilled this optimization has finally come to fruition and is available to the general public.”
OpenStack Adds Native Upstream Support for HDR InfiniBand
Today Mellanox announced that OpenStack software now includes native and upstream support for virtualization over HDR 200 gigabit InfiniBand network, enabling customers to build high-performance OpenStack-based cloud services over the most enhanced interconnect infrastructure, taking advantage of InfiniBand’s extremely low latency, high data-throughput, In-Network Computing and more.
Optimized HPC-AI cloud with OpenStack acceleration service and composable hardware
Shuquan Huang from 99Cloud gave this talk at the OpenStack Summit in Vancouver. “In this session, we will introduce OpenStack Acceleration Service – Cyborg, which provides a management framework for accelerator devices (e.g. FPGA, GPU, NVMe SSD). We will also discuss Rack Scale Design (RSD) technology and explain how physical hardware resources can be dynamically aggregated to meet the AI/HPC requirements.”
Excelero and Mellanox Boost Ceph Performance in OpenStack Cloud
OpenStack cloud provider Teuto.net has reported exceptional performance with low-latency block storage using deployed Excelero’s NVMesh Server SAN along with Mellanox SN2100 switches. As more customers need storage suitable for demanding databases that exceed Ceph’s performance, teuto.net achieved a 2,000% performance gain and 10x lower IO latency with NVMesh compared to Ceph while avoiding costly, less scalable appliances and proprietary vendor solutions.
Kubernetes as a Service Built on OpenStack
Saverio Proto from SWITCH gave this talk at the Swiss HPC Conference. “At SWITCH we are looking to provide a container platform as a Service solution. We are working on Kubernetes leveraging the Openstack cloud provider integration. In this talk we show how to re-use the existing keystone credentials to access the K8s cluster, how to obtain PVCs using the Cinder storage class and many other nice integration details.”
Universities step up to Cloud Bursting
In this special guest feature, Mahesh Pancholi from OCF writes that many of universities are now engaging in cloud bursting and are regularly taking advantage of public cloud infrastructures that are widely available from large companies like Amazon, Google and Microsoft. “By bursting into the public cloud, the university can offer the latest and greatest technologies as part of its Research Computing Service for all its researchers.”
Bright Computing Release 8.1 adds new features for Deep Learning, Kubernetes, and Ceph
Today Bright Computing released version 8.1 of the Bright product portfolio with new capabilities for cluster workload accounting, cloud bursting, OpenStack private clouds, deep learning, AMD accelerators, Kubernetes, Ceph, and a new lightweight daemon for monitoring VMs and non-Bright clustered nodes. “The response to our last major release, 8.0, has been tremendous,” said Martijn de Vries, Chief Technology Officer of Bright Computing. “Version 8.1 adds many new features that our customers have asked for, such as better insight into cluster utilization and performance, cloud bursting, and more flexibility with machine learning package deployment.”
Ace Computers Offers OpenStack Solutions
Today Ace Computers announced four leading-edge OpenStack applications for clusters, servers and workstations. Although the company has been working with top open source application providers for decades—this is the first announcement of an offering portfolio that includes Red Hat, SUSE, Bright Computing and CentOS. “We have the advantage over most of our competitors of decades-long partnerships with many platform developers,” said Ace Computers CEO John Samborski. ” These strong relationships give us access to leading-edge innovations and expertise that allow us to build the best possible solutions for our clients.”
Supercomputing by API: Connecting Modern Web Apps to HPC
In this video from OpenStack Australia, David Perry from the University of Melbourne presents: Supercomputing by API – Connecting Modern Web Apps to HPC. “OpenStack is a free and open-source set of software tools for building and managing cloud computing platforms for public and private clouds. OpenStack Australia Day is the region’s largest, and Australia’s best, conference focusing on Open Source cloud technology. Gathering users, vendors and solution providers, OpenStack Australia Day is an industry event to showcase the latest technologies and share real-world experiences of the next wave of IT virtualization.”
CyVerse’s Atmosphere Platform comes to Massachusetts Open Cloud
Recently, the Massachusetts Open Cloud (MOC) adopted Atmosphere as a means of making it easier for academics to access cloud resources. MOC is a public computational cloud based upon the Open Cloud Exchange model in which many stakeholders participate in the cloud’s development and operation. The project caters to a varied community of users, including academic entities and industrial partners, and those who require computational resources as well as groups providing such resources.
