The European PRACE initiative has released a list of partner activities and initiatives to help combat COVID-19. While medical professionals are working around the clock to help those affected by COVID- 19, PRACE partners, HPC centres, and research infrastructures are doing their bit by opening up their facilities for urgent/priority access to the HPC systems and other resources to support the research to combat the coronavirus.
PRACE has opened a Fast Track Call for Proposals and created a list of initiatives on its website.
PRACE will keep that updating that page as new information on further initiatives becomes available. Details of a small number of these announcements are listed below:
PRACE Partners
GAUSS CENTRE FOR SUPERCOMPUTING (GCS), GERMANY. GCS, the alliance of Germany’s three national supercomputing centres, will be helping researchers working on COVID-19-related research gain expedited access to computing resources. This includes access to the petascale High-Performance Computing infrastructures at the High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS), the Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC), and the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ). CSC – IT CENTER FOR SCIENCE, FINLAND. CSC is participating in the efforts against the COVID-19 pandemic and reserves resources for activities that support this work. Read more here.
GRAND ÉQUIPEMENT NATIONAL DE CALCUL INTENSIF (GENCI), FRANCE. As part of the research efforts conducted at national level to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, GENCI provides French academic and industrial researchers with its computing and storage resources for their work in modelling/simulation, data processing, and the use of artificial intelligence. IRISH CENTRE FOR HIGH-PERFORMANCE COMPUTING (ICHEC), IRELAND. ICHEC will expedite access for all scientific and academic research relating to Covid-19 on the national high-performance computer (HPC), “KAY”. Researchers with approved projects will be given fast-track access to HPC. Read more here.
VLAAMS SUPERCOMPUTER CENTRUM (VSC), BELGIUM. The last weeks a number of research groups are actively working to fight the COVID-19 epidemic in different ways. Also, an important number of companies have groundbreaking ideas on this topic. VSC, the Flemish Supercomputer Center, as an HPC resource centre, wants to support these efforts by opening a special call for accessing computing resources on the VSC HPC infrastructure for Flemish research.
