The DOE INCITE program has issued its Call for Proposals. “Open to researchers from academia, industry and government agencies, the INCITE program is aimed at large-scale scientific computing projects that require the power and scale of DOE’s leadership-class supercomputers. The program will award up to 60 percent of the allocable time on Summit, the OLCF’s 200-petaflop IBM AC922 machine, and Theta, the ALCF’s 12-petaflop Cray XC40 system.”
IBM Deploys Triton AI Supercomputer at University of Miami
Today the University of Miami (UM) announced that their new Triton supercomputer is installed and helping their researchers explore new frontiers of science. The new supercomputer will be UM’s first GPU-accelerated HPC system, representing a completely new approach to computational and data science for the university’s campuses. Built using IBM Power Systems AC922 servers, the new HPC system was designed to maximize data movement between the IBM POWER9 CPU and attached accelerators like GPUs.
Video: Researchers Step Up with the New Summit Supercomputer
“The biggest problems in science require supercomputers of unprecedented capability. That’s why the ORNL launched Summit, a system 8 times more powerful than their previous top-ranked system, Titan. Summit is providing scientists with incredible computing power to solve challenges in energy, artificial intelligence, human health, and other research areas, that were simply out of reach until now. These discoveries will help shape our understanding of the universe, bolster US economic competitiveness, and contribute to a better future.”
Video: IBM Brings NVIDIA Volta to Supercharge Discoveries
In this video from GTC 2018, Adel El-Hallak from IBM describes how IBM and NVIDIA are partnering to build the largest supercomputers in the world to enable data scientists and application developers to not be limited to any device memory. Between IBM and NVIDIA, you can capitalize on the Volta 32GB memory and the entire system as a whole.
