April 7, 2022 — The San Diego Supercomputer Center at UC San Diego has planned summer institutes for June and August, one focused on cyberinfrastructure-enabled machine learning and the on high-performance computing (HPC) and data science.
Application deadlines are April 15 and May 13, respectively.
The Cyberinfrastructure-Enabled Machine Learning (CIML) Summer Institute will be held June 27-29 (with a preparatory session on June 22). The institute will introduce machine learning (ML) researchers, developers and educators to the techniques and methods needed to migrate their ML applications from smaller, locally run resources (such as laptops and workstations) to high-performance computing (HPC) systems (e.g., SDSC’s Expanse supercomputer). The CIML application deadline is Friday, April 15. This program will be held virtually.
The HPC and Data Science Summer Institute is a week-long workshop focused on a broad spectrum of introductory-to-intermediate topics in HPC and data science. The program is aimed at researchers in academia and industry who traditionally have not engaged in supercomputing and who have problems that typically cannot be solved using local computing resources. The HPC and Data Science Summer Institute will be held on Aug. 1-5 (with a preparatory session on July 27). The deadline for applications is Friday, May 13. This event will be held in-person.
“Between the two institutes, in 2021, more than 20 SDSC staff and collaborators worked with over 100 researchers and graduate students to increase their expertise and experience with using HPC and cyberinfrastructure resources and services to accelerate their research models,” said Mary Thomas, a computational scientist at SDSC who leads education, outreach and training on HPC systems. “We are especially excited to have the HPC and Data Science Summer Institute back to an in-person venue and welcome everyone to SDSC.”
