Data science platform specialist Iguazio has announced that hybrid storage and data management vendor NetApp is using Iquazio’s platform to analyze 10 trillion data points per month for automated support and optimization of storage for the infrastructure behind NetApp’s Active IQ, which uses predictive analytics for optimization of storage controllers.
NetApp said the company wanted to build a digital advisor that uses real time AI at scale to gain insights on these devices and conduct predictive maintenance on storage, while learning and improving capabilities over time.
Previously built on Hadoop, NetApp said it was also looking to modernize the service infrastructure “to reduce the complexities of deploying new AI services and the costs of running large-scale analytics. In addition, the shift was needed to enable real-time predictive AI, and to abstract deployment, allowing the technology to run on multi-cloud or on premises seamlessly.”
NetApp turned to Iguazio to replace its traditional data warehouse and Hadoop-based data lake with a Kubernetes-powered, cloud-native, serverless data science platform that can analyze massive amounts of data in real-time.
“Iguazio reduces the complexities of MLOps at scale and provides us with an end-to-end solution for the entire data science lifecycle with enterprise support, which is exactly what we were after”, said Shankar Pasupathy, NetApp’s chief architect for Active IQ.

The Iguazio platform is deployed both in the cloud and on-premises on NetApp’s Cloud Volumes and All Flash Storage, delivery a 50 percent reduction in operating costs, 16x storage capacity reduction, 3-6x fewer compute nodes and 6-12x improvement in time to develop and deploy new AI services, according to Iquazio.
Iguazio’s platform integrates with NetApp’s Trident technology, hooking up a Kubernetes cluster to its NFS (Network File System) and Cloud Volumes Storage. Last month, Iguazio announced its partnership with NetApp, offering its joint data science and MLOps (machine learning operations) solution on NetApp’s ONTAP AI product to enterprises worldwide, through a network of joint partners.
Iguazio said its data science platform enables organizations to run AI projects in real time and deploy them in multi-cloud, on-prem or edge environments.
