Today DDN announced the company has collaborated with Atos to enhance weather prediction capabilities for the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). ECMWF will be equipped with an enhanced computing capacity to help predict the occurrence and intensity of extreme weather events significantly ahead of time, with an improved infrastructure comprised of more than 91PB of DDN EXAScaler storage, connected to BullSequana XH2000 supercomputer from Atos. "Our new supercomputing capabilities will enable us to deliver much-improved numerical weather predictions while maximizing energy efficiency.”

Today Atos announced an €80 million contract with the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) to supply its for a BullSequana XH2000 supercomputer. Powered by AMD EPYC 7742 processors, the new system will be the most powerful meteorological supercomputers in the world. "The Atos supercomputer will allow ECMWF to run its world-wide 15-day ensemble prediction at a higher resolution of about 10km, reliably predicting the occurrence and intensity of extreme weather events ahead of time."

Today Atos announced a 4-year contract to supply its BullSequana XH2000 supercomputer to the University of Luxembourg. "The BullSequana XH2000 supercomputer will give researchers 1.5 times more computing capacity with a theoretical peak performance of 1.7 petaflops which will complement the existing supercomputing cluster. It will be equipped with AMD EPYC processors and Mellanox InfiniBand HDR technology, connected to a DDN storage environment."

Today Atos announced a new four-year contract with French national meteorological service, Météo-France, to supply two supercomputers based on its latest BullSequana XH2000 technology. "We’re really excited to be working again with Météo-France to boost its computing capacity with our BullSequana XH2000 supercomputers” said Pierre Barnabé, SVP, Head of Big Data & Security at Atos. “Equipped with the latest generation processors and accelerators, our BullSequana architechture offers Météo-France a combined peak performance of 20 petaflops to deliver even more precise results. It is also highly-energy efficient and minimizes global energy consumption.”

Today AMD announced a new addition to the 2nd Generation AMD EPYC family, the AMD EPYC 7H12 processor. The 64 core/128 thread, 2.6Ghz base frequency, 3.3Ghz max boost frequency, 280W TDP processor is specifically built for HPC customers and workloads, using liquid cooling to deliver leadership supercomputing performance. "In an ATOS testing on their BullSequana XH2000, the new AMD EPYC 7H12 processor has set four new world-records in server performance. With a LINPACK score of ~ 4.2 TeraFLOPS, the new chip performs ~11% better than the AMD EPYC 7742 processor."
