Bell will highlight the work of the winners of the ACM Gordon Bell Prize from the past 30 years. Presented by the ACM, the recipients’ achievements have chronicled the important innovations and transitions of high performance computing, including the rise of parallel computing, a computing architecture that breaks down problems into smaller ones that may be solved simultaneously.”

Star Tribune Reflects on the Life of Seymour Cray

Over at the Star Tribune, Curt Brown has posted a brief history on the life of Seymour Cray, the Father of the Supercomputing Industry. “It seems impossible to exaggerate the effect he had on the industry,” said Joel Birnbaum, a Hewlett-Packard executive. “Many of the things that high performance computers now do routinely were at the furthest edge of credibility when Seymour envisioned them. He ranks up there with Edison and Bell.”
Documentary: Cray Research at Chippewa Falls

The Chippewa Falls Museum of Industry and Technology commissioned Twin Cities filmmaker Richard Cornell to produce this documentary of the origins of Cray Research and the birth of the supercomputer in Chippewa Falls. The film includes interviews with 15 early Cray Research leaders, engineers and other employees.
