New York – April 19, 2023 – Comet, maker of a platform for managing models ranging from training runs to production monitoring, today announced a new suite of tools designed to revolutionize the workflow surrounding large language models (LLMs). Comet said the tools “mark the beginning of a new market category, known as LLMOps.” With […]
An AI-Flavored Set of HPC Predictions for 2023
We recently read an interesting article in Wired magazine on neuromorphic computing stating that neuroscientists increasingly regard the human brain is a “prediction machine,” that people, as a rule, are in a constant state of anticipation, extrapolation and inference. In HPC, situated as it is at the forward edge of compute power, data analysis and […]

Video: Simulating Planet-Wide Bioenergy and Human Health on the Summit Supercomputer
In this video from PASC19 in Zurich, Dan Jacobson from ORNL describes how researchers are using the #1 Summit supercomputer to tackle the challenges facing an ever-growing human population. These planet-wide simulations could not even have been attempted before the advent of pre-exascale systems like Summit.”We are using CoMet to investigate the genetic architectures underlying complex traits in applications from bioenergy to human clinical genomics.”
Agenda Posted for PASC19 in Zurich
PASC19 has posted its Full Conference Program. The event takes place June 12-14 in Zurich, Switzerland. “PASC19 is the sixth edition of the PASC Conference series, an international platform for the exchange of competences in scientific computing and computational science, with a strong focus on methods, tools, algorithms, application challenges, and novel techniques and usage of high performance computing.”
Achieving ExaOps with the CoMet Comparative Genomics Application
Wayne Joubert’s talk at the HPC User Forum described how researchers at the US Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) achieved a record throughput of 1.88 ExaOps on the CoMet algorithm. As the first science application to run at the exascale level, CoMet achieved this remarkable speed analyzing genomic data on the recently launched Summit supercomputer.
Video: Stunning Simulation Shows Comet in the Solar Wind
In what has to be one of the most beautiful simulations I’ve ever seen, this video from the European Space Agency shows simulated interaction of solar winds with 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, the famous comet targeted the Rosetta mission. “The simulated conditions represent those expected at 1.3 AU from the Sun, close to perihelion, where the comet is strongly active.”
