Tachyum Processor to Power 2021 AI/HPC Supercomputer
Today semiconductor company Tachyum announced today that its Prodigy Processor AI/HPC Reference Design will be used in a supercomputer at an unnamed customer site in 2021. According to the company, the Prodigy processor slated for 2021 delivery “handily outperforms the fastest processors while consuming one-tenth the electrical power, and it is one-third the cost and outperforms GPUs and TPUs on neural net training and inference workloads.”
Tachyum Joins CXL High-Speed Interconnect Consortium
Today Tachyum announced it has joined the Compute Express Link (CXL) Consortium, a group of companies dedicated to advancing a new, open-industry standard interconnect designed to address the increasing demands of high-performance computational workloads. “With worldwide data center capacity doubling every five years, and with AI, Machine Learning, and High-Performance Computing rapidly migrating from purpose-built systems to the cloud, the importance of a fast industry-standard interconnect, which supports memory coherency, cannot be overstated.”
Tachyum Boots Linux on Universal Processor Chip
Today Tachyum announced it has successfully deployed the Linux OS on its Prodigy Universal Processor architecture, a foundation for 64-core, ultra-low power, high-performance processor. “Running an OS directly on the chip, without attaching to another host processor as an accelerator or other workaround, signals to the industry that Tachyum compiler and software is stable, mature, and approaching production-quality.”
Tachyum Chip Startup gets $17 Million Capital Infusion from Slovak Government
Today chip startup Tachyum announced that it has received capital from the Slovak government of almost $17 million dollars to help build a new R&D center within the country. This funding will assist in the final development phase of the company’s Prodigy Universal Processor Chip, the smallest and fastest general-purpose, 64-bit processor, requiring 10x lower power and 3x lower sell price than competing products with equivalent performance. Together, these two attributes result in Prodigy reducing data center annual total cost of ownership (CapEx + OpEx) by a factor of 4x.
Tachyum Joins Open Euro HPC Project
Today Tachyum announced its participation and support for the Open Euro High Performance Computing Project (OEUHPC). “Tachyum is supporting the OEUHPC Project due to its ability to satisfy the need for both scalable and converged computing, which, in part, will ultimately enable users to cost effectively simulate, in real-time, human brain-sized Neural Networks. Tachyum has been working to develop its ultra-low power Prodigy Universal Processor Chip to allow system integrators to build a 32 Tensor ExaFLOPS AI supercomputer in 2020, well ahead of the scheduled EU goal to achieve 1 ExaFLOPS in 2028.”

Professor Steve Furber Joins Tachyum Board of Advisors
Today Silicon Valley startup Tachyum Inc. announced that Professor Steve Furber, the highly regarded original designer of the world’s leading embedded processor, the ARM microprocessor, has joined its Board of Advisors. Today Silicon Valley startup Tachyum Inc. unveiled its new processor family – codenamed “Prodigy” – that combines the advantages of CPUs with GP-GPUs, and specialized AI chips in a single universal processor platform. According to Tachyum, the new chip has “ten times the processing power per watt” and is capable of running the world’s most complex compute tasks. “With its disruptive architecture, Prodigy will enable a super-computational system for real-time full capacity human brain neural network simulation by 2020.”
