Developed and maintained by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), the Weather Research & Forecasting (WRF®) model has over 48,000 registered users in over 160 countries. WRF is a flexible and computationally efficient platform for operational forecasting across scales ranging from meters to thousands of kilometers.
The Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF®) model is a popular mesoscale numerical weather prediction system designed for both atmospheric research and operational forecasting applications. It features two dynamical cores, a data assimilation system, and a software architecture supporting parallel computation and system extensibility.
The WRF model serves a wide range of meteorological applications across scales from tens of meters to thousands of kilometers. Azure HBv3 VMs powered by AMD EPYC 7003 processors deliver supercomputer-class performance on tightly coupled simulations such as weather forecasting. WRF uses massive data collected from satellites, radars, and a wide range of other tools requiring high performance and memory bandwidth.
